Best smartwatches for your Christmas list

If you’re thinking of buying your nearest and dearest a smartwatch for Christmas, the time is right. So to help you make that big buying decision, we’ve rounded up a few of the best ones around.

LG Watch Urbane

The LG Watch Urbane combines the look of a classic timepiece with the latest smart tech.

It looks stunning. The stainless steel finish that surrounds the face is polished silver, and it also has a genuine leather strap with cream stitching.

The LG Watch Urbane uses Wi-Fi to connect to your phone remotely, so you can use it to send texts, activate calls or browse the web. It’s a great fitness tracker too, and you’ll no longer have to lug your phone around with you when you’re out for a run.

Price Guide (£ - cheapest, £££ – most expensive) = £ £ £

Samsung Gear S2

The slim and sleek Samsung Gear S2 has a durable stainless steel body that fits neatly on the wrist. Customising the watch face is easy, so you can bring your own personal touch of style to it.

The display is surrounded by a rotating bezel that you can use to navigate through apps and screens. It can effortlessly scroll through long emails, zoom into maps and a lot more besides.

The Gear S2 comes with a heart-rate monitor and lots of fitness features. It auto-tracks walking, running and cycling and estimates the calories burned, and you can set up fitness goals and keep an eye on your progress using the S Health app.

There’s also 4GB of internal storage - enough for about 300 songs. Pair it with a set of Bluetooth headphones, and you can listen to your tunes when you’re out on a run, without your phone.

Price Guide (£ - cheapest, £££ – most expensive) = £ £ £

Get the Samsung Gear S2 in dark grey or silver.

Sony Smartwatch 3

The Sony Smartwatch 3 will make a great gift for sporty or outdoorsy types. Not only is it tough and water resistant, but it also tracks steps and other types of activity. It’s also compatible with fitness apps like Runtastic.

The Smartwatch 3 is waterproof, has inbuilt GPS and gives you immediate access to your phone calls, messages and social media notifications. You can also use it to control your music when your phone’s safely tucked away in your pocket or bag.

Battery life is great too - it’ll give you up to a week of use before you need to think about recharging it.

Price Guide (£ - cheapest, £££ – most expensive) = £ £

Get the Sony Smartwatch 3 in green, black or metal.

Moto 360

The Motorola Moto 360 is a gorgeous looking smartwatch, with edge-to-edge glass on its large circular face. The display is bright and clear, and there’s a great selection of watch faces to help you fully personalise it.

The Moto 360 uses Bluetooth to keep you updated with notifications from your smartphone, so you can check emails and calendar invites without having to dig deep for your handset.

There are also loads of great apps to download for the Moto 360 - everything from Flappy Bird-type games to handy language learning tools.

Price Guide (£ - cheapest, £££ – most expensive) = £ £

Get the Moto 360 in black or grey.

Pebble Steel smartwatch

The Pebble Steel is another great smartwatch that gives you instant access to messages, emails and news updates, all directly on your wrist. Its advanced e-ink screen is easy to read, even in direct sunlight. And because it’s not a full colour display, battery life is awesome – a single charge can last a week.

The Pebble Steel lets you track all sorts of activities including running, cycling and swimming, so it’s a great health and fitness wearable. It even monitors your sleep, so you can check that you’re getting enough quality shuteye.

Price Guide (£ - cheapest, £££ – most expensive) = £ £
