7 amazing Google Street View destinations

Travelling is now easier and cheaper than ever

Following the recent advent of Google’s Street View app, we thought we’d explore some of the places now charted on the app that you mightn’t ever get a chance to see in person. To kick things off, let’s have a wander around the president of America’s digs…

White House, Washington DC, USA

The White House was officially completed in 1800, and has housed all US presidents since Thomas Jefferson moved in on 1 November 1801. It’s synonymous with American culture and until now, only a lucky few have been invited inside.

Adélie penguin rookery – Cape Royds, Antarctica

Experience penguins in their natural habit in Cape Royds, Antarctica. A little over a hundred years ago, the area was unexplored, and now you can check it out from the comfort of your sofa. What a time to be alive, eh?

Everest base camp, Himalayas, Nepal

Unleash your inner Sherpa and virtually breathe in the tallest mountain in the world. It’s estimated that around 40,000 people take the trip up to base camp each year, but you’re more than just a statistic.

Emirates Airbus A380

Getting sick of cheap flights with no legroom and reheated meals? Check out how the other half live with this tour of an Airbus A380 – the world’s largest passenger jet. Two decks, fully stocked bar, your own personal in-flight entertainment screen and even a breakout area.

Chichén Itzá, Maya ruin, Mexico

The Maya Ruin is one of the most awe-inspiring world heritage sites, located in the Mexican region of Yucatán. It’s estimated that the site sees 1.2 million visitors a year, and that sounds awfully busy, doesn’t it?

The TARDIS, Earl’s Court, London

Doctor Who fans will be thrilled with this one. The time machine-cum-spacecraft can be found outside Earl’s Court Underground station in London, and if you line up your Google Maps arrow just right, you can climb inside and check out the Time Lords’ fine work first hand.

Great Barrier Reef, Australia

Google only recently mapped the Great Barrier Reef - just off the coast of Queensland, Australia. And, now you can enjoy the majesty of Mother Nature easier than ever. The Reef is the largest of its kind on the planet, made up of over 900 islands stretching over 1,400 miles.
