How to send money with your smartphone

Use your phone to split the tab

Mobile payment is the next big thing. With lots of options now available in the app stores it’s quickly becoming the time to ditch your wallet and embrace the new technology. We may still be waiting for the likes of Facebook Payments with Messenger, and Google Wallet to arrive in the UK, but that doesn’t mean we have to miss out.

Here are a couple of apps if you’re looking to kick-start your digital spending.

Pingit

Pingit is powered by Barclays, and it lets you send money to friends by linking their mobile number to a nominated bank account. This means you don’t need to remember sort codes or card numbers – it’s as easy as sending a text.

It’s not just for splitting that cocktail tab, however, as Pingit is quite popular with tradesmen and small businesses.

Read more about Pingit here.

PayPal

PayPal is probably the most well known of our three choices, but that’s not to say it’s any better. Just like Pingit, you can use mobile numbers or email addresses to transfer money to different accounts, while shops are slowly starting to accept mobile payments from the company.

The long time subsidiary of eBay now exists on its own, with an estimated value of $46.6bn (£36.9bn).

Head over to PayPal’s website now to find out more.

Circle

Circle separates itself from the others by using a platform the younger demographic will find familiar. The well-designed app lets users exchange and share GIFs and messages alongside their funds.

Check out Circle’s website to find out more.
