The best camera phones available to buy

They say a picture tells a thousand words, and for that reason, the smartphone camera is more important than ever these days. To make sure you're up to date on the best camera phones, check out our list, all available to buy from Carphone Warehouse.

Samsung Galaxy S9

The S9's revolutionary main camera boasts a dual aperture, which adapts like the human eye to take stunning pictures in all sorts of conditions - from bright daylight to moonlit evenings.

The camera also includes a fun AR emoji feature, so you can turn yourself into an emoji and create your personal avatar.

iPhone X

iPhone X features a larger and faster 12MP sensor. It also boasts a second OIS system in the powerful ƒ/2.4. The two cameras work together to create deep pixels and enable optical zoom - bringing you closer to your subject.

Apple has even enabled Face ID for added security, as well as Portrait mode through the 7MP selfie camera. And if you fancy transforming into a furrier version of yourself, the Animoji feature analyses more than 50 different muscle movements - bringing out that panda, pig or robot within.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Camera legends, Leica, have co-created the Huawei Mate 10 Pro’s dual lens camera. At 20MP and 12MP you can expect pin-sharp photography and video in 4K resolution. The neural AI processor also recognises what you're photographing, and automatically switches camera settings for the best images, every time.

On the front you'll find an 8MP selfie lens, with a f/2.0 aperture. This means that the lens can open really wide, drawing lots of light into the camera for better, brighter shots.

HTC U11

The HTC U11 offers a spectacular camera experience, with its 12MP lens and large f/1.7 aperture. For a while it held the crown as the best camera on a phone, as decided by DxOMark, the industry standard for image quality. It was recently moved a little further down the list, when Google Pixel 2 showed up. More on this below.

The U11 has plenty more to offer, however. Give it a squeeze, and you can launch customisable shortcuts without touching the phone’s screen at all. And it's got a pin-sharp 5.5-inch Quad HD display.

Google Pixel 2

Pixel 2 has a 12.2MP camera on board, which has received much acclaim throughout the mobile industry. Portrait Mode is an incredible tool, producing a deep blur in the background without and special editing or filters. It also features a 5-inch Full HD display, and has the helpful Google Assistant on board, always on-hand to answer your questions.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

The Xperia XZ Premium has a 19MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. But the real headline is the fact you can film super slow-motion HD video at 960 frames p/sec.

The rest of the phone is pretty impressive, too, with a 5.5-inch 4K HDR display and IP68 water and dust-protection.

Samsung Galaxy Note8

The Note8's dual rear 12mp camera is brilliant for low-light, close zoom and wide-angle shots. Plus, its 2X optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilisation lets you capture stunning images even when you're far away from your subject.
