Relive your teens with Spotify's new playlist

Take a trip back in time

Every now and then, Spotify announces that it’s discovered a brand new way for you to enjoy music. There’s the annual Year in Music, which regurgitates the songs you listed to most over the past 12 months. Climature matched music to the weather happening in your city. And Taste Rewind was designed to reveal what you would have been listening to if you were born earlier.

But now there’s Your Time Capsule, a playlist Spotify says is personalised to send you back in time. It generates about three and a half hours of music, which it thinks you’d have been listening to as you were growing up.

How do I list to my playlist?

The personalised playlist is available to all users over 16, and the more you use Spotify, the more accurate the mix should be. To find Your Time Capsule, open the Android or iOS apps and you’ll see it in the Browse section, and the Decades menu.

At The Lowdown offices, we found our individual playlists to be pretty bang on the money, with just a few curve balls in there. Pendulum’s ‘Slam’ crossfaded into Shania Twain’s ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’ was a surprise, but who’s to say the world hasn’t been patiently waiting with bated breath for that to happen?

This new addition further proves Spotify’s dedication to its 140 million-strong customer base. The hugely popular Discover Weekly playlist attracted over 40 million customers in the first year of its release, which is delivered to each user who has had an account for over two weeks every Monday.

At time of writing it doesn’t look like there’s a dedicated place on the desktop version to access it, as there is on mobile, but you can follow this link to get it from Spotify’s website.
