3 new must-see Google projects

Google PhotoScan, Google Earth VR, and Project Soli

As ever, Google’s been hard at work producing some exciting new projects in its quest to dominate the world of technology. This is what we’re most excited about.

Google PhotoScan

Before the days of smartphones, we had all our photos printed from film and stored in actual albums. Remember that? Nowadays, all our memories are saved in digital collections or in the cloud, and all our physical photos are no doubt stashed away in a cupboard.

Google wants to change that. With new app, PhotoScan, you can keep all your photos in one place. And this is about much more than snapping a picture of a picture.

PhotoScan stitches four different images together, to remove glare and produce high-quality, digital reproductions. It’s really easy to use, and can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store and the App Store for iOS.

Google Earth VR

Google Earth isn’t a new project. It’s been commercially available since 2005, letting you look at the world in 3D on your computer or smartphone. Now, however, it’s time for the next level – enter 2016’s most popular technology, VR.

Having partnered with HTC Vive, you can now explore Google Earth like never before. Fly around Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue, wander the streets of New York, or transport your way across the globe at the click of a button. It’s the next logical step for Google Earth, and it looks amazing.

Project Soli

Google is always coming up with innovative new ideas to improve the way we interact with the technology that’s part of our day-to-day lives.

The team behind Project Soli is committed to using radar technology, so that natural hand gestures can be used to adjust the likes of wearables easier than ever before.

Instead of fiddling with the tiny physical components you might find on a smartwatch, for example, you’ll be able to use ‘air gestures’ to control whatever you want the hardware to do.
